The TM5SPS3 is a Modicon TM5 interface power distribution module used with compatible CANopen or Sercos III fieldbus interface assemblies.
It distributes an external 24 V DC supply to the I/O power segment and provides power for the interface bus electronics.
The module supports up to 10 A on the 24 V DC I/O power segment and supplies up to 750 mA to the TM5 bus under normal horizontal installation conditions.
TM5SPS3 does not perform CANopen or Sercos III communication. The adjacent fieldbus interface module manages communication, while TM5SPS3 provides the required power distribution.
Key Features
Typical Applications
Interface Power Function
TM5SPS3 supplies power for two separate system areas:
24 V DC I/O Power Segment
Provides field-side power for compatible downstream I/O modules and connected sensors or actuators.
Interface and TM5 Bus Electronics
Provides operating power for the compatible communication interface and downstream TM5 electronics.
It does not create or process network data.
CANopen and Sercos III Support
TM5SPS3 can be used in compatible TM5 assemblies associated with:
The actual network connector, address and protocol processing are provided by the compatible communication interface, not by TM5SPS3.
Output Capacity
Maximum I/O Segment Current
10 A
TM5 Bus Output
750 mA from -10 to 55°C
TM5 Bus Output with Temperature Derating
500 mA from 55 to 60°C
The total current demand of the connected electronics and field loads must remain within these limits.
External Fuse Protection
The wiring arrangement requires external time-delay fuse protection.
I/O Power Circuit
10 A maximum time-delay fuse
Internal Electronics Supply
1 A time-delay fuse
TM5SPS3 does not contain the same integrated 6.3 A fuse arrangement as TM5SPS2F.
TM5SPS3 vs TM5SPS2
TM5SPS3
Used with CANopen or Sercos III interface assemblies.
Supplies interface-bus electronics and the 24 V DC I/O segment.
Provides up to 750 mA bus current under normal conditions.
TM5SPS2
Used to renew power within a standard TM5 I/O station.
Supplies the TM5 internal power bus and the 24 V DC I/O segment.
Provides a different TM5 bus current capacity.
The two modules should not be selected only because both distribute 24 V DC power.
TM5SPS3 vs Communication Module
TM5SPS3
Distributes electrical power.
Has no independent network communication function.
Does not assign CANopen addresses or exchange process data.
Communication Interface Module
Connects the I/O island to the fieldbus.
Processes network data.
Provides the actual CANopen or Sercos III interface.
Both components may be required in a complete remote I/O assembly.

FAQ
Q1: What is TM5SPS3?
A1: It is a Modicon TM5 interface power distribution module for compatible CANopen or Sercos III I/O assemblies.
Q2: Is TM5SPS3 a CANopen communication module?
A2: No. It supplies power to the interface assembly; the communication module handles CANopen data.
Q3: What is the maximum I/O power current?
A3: The 24 V DC I/O power segment supports up to 10 A.
Q4: How much current does it provide to the TM5 bus?
A4: It provides up to 750 mA at temperatures up to 55°C, derated to 500 mA from 55 to 60°C.
Q5: Does it include an internal fuse?
A5: The documented wiring uses external time-delay fuses rather than the integrated fuse arrangement found in fused PDM models.
Q6: Can it be used as a standalone 24 V DC power supply?
A6: No. It distributes power from an external isolated 24 V DC source.
Q7: What distinguishes it from TM5SPS2?
A7: TM5SPS3 is intended for fieldbus interface assemblies, while TM5SPS2 renews power within a standard TM5 I/O station.
