The B&R X20SO2530 provides two individually isolated safe relay outputs with one normally open contact per channel. It can switch approved loads from 5 to 24 VDC or 5 to 230 VAC at currents from 5 mA to 6 A, making it fundamentally different from the 24 VDC semiconductor output modules in the X20SO21xx and X20SO41xx families.
Positively driven feedback contacts allow the module to determine the relay contact position. The isolated relay design is useful for floating AC or DC actuators, but mechanical contact life depends on switching current, load type, inrush energy and switching frequency.
The module requires the red X20TB72 safety-keyed terminal block and specified external short-circuit protection. These accessories must not be substituted without checking the B&R documentation and the validated panel design.
The X20SO2530 can be used in safety-related applications up to PL e or SIL 3 only when the complete safety function is correctly engineered, configured, commissioned and validated. The achievable safety level depends on the full sensor, logic, communication, wiring and actuator chain. Check the exact hardware revision, firmware, Automation Studio hardware definition and SafeDESIGNER project before replacing an installed module.
Q: Can X20SO2530 switch AC loads?
A: Yes. The specified switching range extends to 230 VAC, subject to load, current, protection and installation requirements.
Q: How many relay contacts are available?
A: There are two relay outputs, each with one normally open contact.
Q: Is the 6 A rating valid for every load?
A: No. Contact life and permissible switching depend on voltage, load type, inrush current and switching frequency.
Q: Which terminal block is required?
A: Use the X20TB72 12-pin safety-keyed terminal block rated for 240 VAC.
Q: Does the module need an external fuse?
A: Yes. B&R specifies external short-circuit and overload protection, such as a 6 A gL/gG fuse or a 1.6 A C-curve breaker.
Q: Can it directly replace a semiconductor X20 safe output?
A: No. Relay and semiconductor outputs have different wiring, timing, load and diagnostic characteristics.
