The B&R X20SL8101 combines a programmable SafeLOGIC controller, openSAFETY gateway and X20 bus controller in one 62.5 mm-wide device. It manages safety communication for as many as 280 SafeNODEs and executes safety applications created in SafeDESIGNER.
Its main difference from the X20SL8110 is system integration. The X20SL8101 includes the X20 bus controller as well as power supply functions for the internal I/O supply and X2X Link, making it well suited to safety stations that need local X20 I/O. The X20SL8110 instead provides an interface-module slot for additional network expansion.
The controller also supports configuration monitoring and automatic parameter transfer to safety modules after properly managed service replacement. A matching SafeKEY and the correct licensed function range must be selected separately through the X20MK configuration process.
The X20SL8101 can be used in safety-related applications up to PL e or SIL 3 only when the complete safety function is correctly engineered, configured, commissioned and validated. The achievable safety level depends on the full sensor, logic, communication, wiring and actuator chain. Check the exact hardware revision, firmware, Automation Studio hardware definition and SafeDESIGNER project before replacing an installed module.
Q: What is the main difference between X20SL8101 and X20SL8110?
A: X20SL8101 integrates an X20 bus controller and the related I/O/X2X power functions. X20SL8110 has one slot for an X20 interface module instead.
Q: How many safe nodes can X20SL8101 manage?
A: It can operate as an openSAFETY manager for up to 280 SafeNODEs, subject to the engineered network and application limits.
Q: Is the SafeKEY included?
A: No. The X20MK0223 SafeKEY and the required SafeLOGIC function range must be ordered separately.
Q: Which software is used to program it?
A: The safety application is developed in SafeDESIGNER within the supported Automation Studio environment.
Q: Does the controller include the terminal block?
A: Yes. B&R lists one X20TB52 safety-keyed terminal block, the right end cover and the SafeKEY cover as included components.
Q: Can one X20SL8101 automatically make a machine SIL 3 compliant?
A: No. SIL or PL is achieved by the complete validated safety function, not by the controller alone.
