The B&R X20SI9100 is the highest-density dedicated safe input module in this batch, providing 20 type A digital inputs and four pulse outputs in a 25 mm-wide station. It is designed for machines with many guard switches, emergency-stop contacts or distributed 24 VDC safety signals.
Its advantage over X20SI8110 is channel concentration: 20 safe inputs instead of eight. The tradeoff is a larger terminal requirement, with two X20TB52 safety-keyed terminal blocks needed for the field wiring. This makes X20SI9100 attractive when reducing module count is more important than minimizing the number of conductors at one station.
The module provides per-channel software filtering and diagnostic pulse signals, and it communicates with the safety controller through openSAFETY.
The X20SI9100 can be used in safety-related applications up to PL e or SIL 3 only when the complete safety function is correctly engineered, configured, commissioned and validated. The achievable safety level depends on the full sensor, logic, communication, wiring and actuator chain. Check the exact hardware revision, firmware, Automation Studio hardware definition and SafeDESIGNER project before replacing an installed module.
Q: How many safe inputs does X20SI9100 provide?
A: It provides 20 type A safe digital inputs.
Q: How many terminal blocks are required?
A: Two X20TB52 safety-keyed terminal blocks are required.
Q: What is the difference from X20SI8110?
A: X20SI9100 has 20 inputs and a 25 mm pitch; X20SI8110 has eight inputs in a 12.5 mm single-width module.
Q: Can all input filters be configured separately?
A: Yes. The switch-on and switch-off filtering can be configured for each input channel.
Q: Which safety bus bases can be used?
A: B&R lists X20BM33 and X20BM36 as the required compatible bus modules.
Q: Is it a drop-in replacement regardless of firmware?
A: No. Confirm hardware revision, firmware, Automation Studio hardware definition and the validated safety project before replacement.
