Description
X20SC0402 4DI 2DO Safe Mixed I/O Module

The B&R X20SC0402 combines four type A safe digital inputs, four diagnostic pulse outputs and two type B2 safe outputs in one 25 mm module. This arrangement is useful for a compact safety zone that must monitor several contacts and control two electronic actuator inputs from the same SafeIO slice.

Compared with the X20SC0806, X20SC0402 has half the safe inputs and one-third of the safe outputs. The smaller 4DI/2DO arrangement is more economical for local machine zones that do not need the higher channel density of the 8DI/6DO model.

Its type B2 outputs are rated at 0.2 A and use OSSD test pulses shorter than 10 µs, making compatibility with the connected reference-potential actuator input an important engineering check.

Key Features

  • Four type A safe digital inputs
  • Four diagnostic pulse outputs
  • Two type B2 safe outputs at 0.2 A
  • OSSD test pulse shorter than 10 µs
  • Configurable filter for each safe input
  • Mixed I/O reduces module count in small safety zones

Typical Applications

  • Local guard-door and drive-enable stations
  • Compact packaging-machine safety zones
  • Emergency-stop monitoring with two shutdown outputs
  • Assembly cells with limited cabinet space
  • X20SC0402 replacement projects

Safety and Compatibility Note

The X20SC0402 can be used in safety-related applications up to PL e or SIL 3 only when the complete safety function is correctly engineered, configured, commissioned and validated. The achievable safety level depends on the full sensor, logic, communication, wiring and actuator chain. Check the exact hardware revision, firmware, Automation Studio hardware definition and SafeDESIGNER project before replacing an installed module.

FAQ

Q: How many inputs and outputs does X20SC0402 have?

A: It has four safe digital inputs and two safe digital outputs, plus four diagnostic pulse outputs.

Q: What output type is used?

A: It uses type B2 outputs rated at 0.2 A per channel.

Q: How does it differ from X20SC0806?

A: X20SC0402 has 4DI/2DO, while X20SC0806 has 8DI/6DO.

Q: How many terminal blocks are required?

A: Two X20TB52 safety-keyed terminal blocks are required.

Q: Can it control a drive enable input?

A: It can control a compatible reference-potential input if the electrical limits, OSSD pulse behavior and safety design are approved.

Q: Does the mixed module work without a SafeLOGIC controller?

A: No. It must be part of a configured and validated openSAFETY system.
