Description
B&R X20SO4120 4-Channel 2A Type A Safe Output Module

The B&R X20SO4120 provides four type A safe semiconductor outputs rated at 2 A per channel. Its 5 A total-current limit gives it substantially more load capacity than X20SO4110 while preserving current monitoring, open-circuit detection and positive/negative switching for floating actuators.

The critical selection difference is that four channels cannot all be assumed to deliver 2 A simultaneously: B&R specifies a 5 A total nominal current for the module. Load distribution, inrush current and thermal derating must therefore be calculated for the actual actuator combination.

This module is intended for machinery with several higher-current contactors, valves or approved 24 VDC safety actuators concentrated in one X20 station.

Key Features

  • Four type A safe semiconductor outputs
  • Two-amp nominal capacity per channel
  • Five-amp total nominal current limit
  • Positive and negative switching paths
  • Current monitoring and open-circuit detection
  • OSSD test pulses below 500 µs

Typical Applications

  • Multi-contactor safety shutdown circuits
  • High-current pneumatic and hydraulic safety valves
  • Large packaging and converting machines
  • Production cells with several independent safe outputs
  • X20SO4120 replacement projects

Safety and Compatibility Note

The X20SO4120 can be used in safety-related applications up to PL e or SIL 3 only when the complete safety function is correctly engineered, configured, commissioned and validated. The achievable safety level depends on the full sensor, logic, communication, wiring and actuator chain. Check the exact hardware revision, firmware, Automation Studio hardware definition and SafeDESIGNER project before replacing an installed module.

FAQ

Q: Can all four outputs provide 2 A at the same time?

A: Not at full current simultaneously. The module has a 5 A total nominal current limit that must be respected.

Q: What is the difference from X20SO4110?

A: X20SO4120 is rated at 2 A per channel and 5 A total; X20SO4110 is rated at 0.5 A per channel and 2 A total.

Q: Does it support open-circuit detection?

A: Yes. The module monitors output current and reports the load-current state.

Q: Is it suitable for grounded actuator inputs?

A: Type A outputs are intended for floating actuators. A type B output may be required for loads with a reference potential.

Q: Which accessories are required?

A: Use an X20BM33 or X20BM36 bus module and one X20TB52 safety-keyed terminal block.

Q: What must be calculated before selection?

A: Check total current, channel current, inrush behavior, capacitance, inductive energy, cabinet temperature and safety response time.
