Description
B&R X20SO4110 4-Channel 0.5A Type A Safe Output Module

The B&R X20SO4110 expands the 0.5 A type A safe output architecture to four channels. It is designed for floating 24 VDC actuators that require positive and negative switching, current monitoring and open-circuit diagnostics.

Compared with X20SO2110, it doubles the channel count from two to four while retaining the 0.5 A per-channel rating. Compared with X20SO4120, it is intended for lower-current loads and has a 2 A total nominal current rather than the 5 A total capacity of the 2 A-per-channel model.

The four-channel format is useful when several safety contactors, relays or valves must be controlled from one SafeIO station without moving to a higher-current output design.

Key Features

  • Four type A safe outputs
  • 0.5 A nominal current per channel
  • Two-amp total nominal output current
  • Positive and negative switching for floating loads
  • Current monitoring and open-circuit detection
  • OSSD test pulses below 500 µs

Typical Applications

  • Four-zone contactor shutdown systems
  • Multiple pneumatic safety valves
  • Packaging and assembly cells
  • Distributed output stations in production lines
  • Replacement of X20SO4110 modules

Safety and Compatibility Note

The X20SO4110 can be used in safety-related applications up to PL e or SIL 3 only when the complete safety function is correctly engineered, configured, commissioned and validated. The achievable safety level depends on the full sensor, logic, communication, wiring and actuator chain. Check the exact hardware revision, firmware, Automation Studio hardware definition and SafeDESIGNER project before replacing an installed module.

FAQ

Q: How does X20SO4110 differ from X20SO2110?

A: X20SO4110 has four 0.5 A outputs, while X20SO2110 has two.

Q: How does it differ from X20SO4120?

A: Both have four type A outputs, but X20SO4110 is rated at 0.5 A per channel and X20SO4120 at 2 A per channel.

Q: What is the total nominal current?

A: The total nominal output current is 2 A.

Q: Does it provide load diagnostics?

A: Yes. Current monitoring supports open-circuit detection.

Q: Which actuator type suits a type A output?

A: Type A outputs are intended for floating loads such as suitable relays, contactors and valves.

Q: Must the safety function be retested after replacement?

A: Yes. Wiring, load behavior, firmware and the complete validated safety function must be checked.
